Electronics

… explaining the basic components (resistor, capacitor, inductor, diode, transistor) and some very simple circuits, e.g. blinking light bulb or tone generator. At that time (1983) there was no internet and hardly companies selling electronic parts to private customers. In the next bigger town Baden where i was going to school there was a small electronics tinkering shop called Autrix. The mainly used parts were available but for a student too expensive. So it was usual to disassemble broken electronic devices, unsolder all electronic parts, wires, switches. With all my over years saved pocket money i was able to buy a simple multimeter instead of a new LEGO set. So i could test and measure the unsoldered parts and eventually i had a working circuit blinking and beeping.

When i brought home a broken televison which i digged out in the neighbor village scrapyard, my mother was not so excited, my room was already piled up with broken devices and many tinkered thingys. At that time i already had replaced the fuse for the floor with my room many times, i have already got some electrical shocks from touching “hot” parts in my “patients” (amazing that i’m still alive when i think about it 😉 ). Well, the broken television … i was aware of the high voltages beeing used to accelerate the electrons in the picture tube, but i was not aware of the still charged capacitors, even tough the device was disconnected from mains power for some minutes. So i got my first high voltage shock … and i got the inspiration for my profession … and one of my hobbies, what a good combination.

Some of my “creations” i will present here with pictures and/or drawings and/or circuit drawings and/or programming code and/or videos and/or other unimportances …

Featured projects :

  • UGC2 – Universal game controller
  • MP3P1 – Fart and noise generator
  • FSMFD – Flight simulator multi functional display (will maybe beeing canceled … see below)
  • FSpit – Flight simulator desktop cockpit
  • Kermander1000 – Will be revived after release of KSP2, very dusty right now

FSpit – Another simulator cockpit

Another new and old project is building a “cockpit” for a flight simulator, not really a cockpit with seats and coffee maker, just an instrument panel with some switches. In the past i already built some panels, but they were just some switches in shoebox with some light bulbs. Many years ago as a kid…

Chinese fake? rotary encoder

Faked products like handbags, perfume or sneakers … no new story … but faked mechanical rotary pulse encoders, i’m a little bit upset now. For another ols and revived project, a multifunctional display for an airplane simulator, i need some of those dual rotary encoders. The outer knob for course value setting, the inner knob…

Oh no ! … another new project

Due to the Covid pandemic a lot of video meetings are held … some are so boring and need some exhilaration. A fart and weird noise generator is needed. All the necessary parts i found in my “store” at home. A suitable case has been constructed in my favorite 3D drawing programm FreeCAD, the lower…
